So...

these sound like organic drums and guitar? Did you play them yourself?

Other than that, awesome mix! I love songs with variety in them, and you've made the transition with the beat change (around 0:55) really well. Takes guts to blend such a wide variety of styles/instruments. Super catchy! ;D

MashedByMachines responds:

hey! Yes, I do play the guitar myself! The drums are emulated with the VST "addictive drums" :)

Thanks for your review :)

You've got a fresh approach!

I like your stuff, man - good tunes (in 8-bit style or not), and this one has a good message to it - about people wasting their life on video games. The way you've done it blurs the distinction between games and real life, just like you've blurred the distinction between 8-bit and regular music with lyrics. :D

MashedByMachines responds:

Thats exactly what I was going for! Thanks a lot for your review :D !

Constructive criticism, huh? :0

uhh... well, it's my opinion, but the whole thing sounds rather 8-bit. As in close to it.

In the beginning, when it changes tone (0.12) the buildup isn't as great because the only thing that changes is one thing.

Sounds good, but sounds bare, I guess. But then again, you could be going for something different. ;)

takeflight responds:

You know I completely agree with you. Had you posted this 1 day after submission i would have argued, but looking at the big picture, this song is more of a template for expansion more than an actual, complete, song. Thank you dazza for your review :]

Just felt like a song from you! ;)

Lots of intricate work here, and fancy touches here and there.

Sounds a bit industrial too, with the clanging.

Only point that wasn't perfect (in my view) was the melody line seemed a bit 'in your face' (e.g. at 2.55 onwards). The notes seemed to draw attention to it, rather than blend in with the rest of the music. My impression.

Everything's still good, though.

takeflight responds:

i have no idea why i haven't responded to this yet lol, thank you very much for your review :]

You have a sweet voice :3

Listening to your stuff, I think you're a genuinely musical person. Your voice doesn't dissolve (get inaudible) at places, which is good.

You recorded the guitar at the same time as singing, and it would be nice in two takes, so more than one note can be played at a time. I know it's complicated, but it would be learned eventually, even if you played chords at the same time.

takeflight responds:

Thank you :] I'm learning a whole bunch of chords right now, and I'm getting better but I just wanted to record this asap lol. Thank you very much for your review, and sorry for the late response :]

Didn't think it was possible...

...to get something that perfectly matched the beat, but you did. =] (I really like TakeFlight's song)

To be honest, I don't like hip hop, but this is damn good. :) (plz take that as a compliment)

Mackity responds:

I'm real glad you enjoyed it. :) Thanks.

idk

Nice experimentation... I don't know trance that well, but I'd think the beats at the beginning need to be a bit softer. Just seems to jump right into it. Also, louder at certain parts (like 1.20)

takeflight responds:

Ok, that makes sense. I could definitely bring down the kick in the beginning so it kind of draws the listener in more, and the chorus is kind of a mess of sound right now, but I'll try to bring certain elements out more. Thank you for the review :]

So catchy

It's rare that you can get a song that you can listen to over and over.

Also, when it's on repeat, it works as a loop :] (with the ends seeming like it died down a bit)

Nice pro work, mate

takeflight responds:

Yeah, replay value is definitely an important aspect to a song. Thanks for the review, and glad you enjoyed it!

excellent professional work

Love the way you led into the beat change at around 16 sec. I was umm-ing a bit at the quiet bit in the middle, but variety is good. If I was dancing at a rave, it would seem to drop a bit in energy at the quiet bit, though. Overall, very catchy, and nice balance between continuity and variety.

ZooSafari responds:

Thank you very much ^^

The moment I left the song without anything was to listen to the ppl screaming of emotion on the rave XD lol

Actually many trance/dance songs use that technique, its part of the whole buildup/breakdown thing ^^

Good stuff!

Maybe I don't have my speakers turned up enough, but your music seems rather refined in comparison - it's not total drum bashing guitar screeching stuff. Which is OK, but not my preference.

Also, being a n00b, with your collabs with Switch, I can't really tell which is the base - I thought base only played one note at a time or something and was an octave lower. Still enjoying it tho ;p

Evil-Dog responds:

I play the right guitar and the drum(computer drum) and Switch plays the left guitar and bass :)
